Water is a little high and dingy in the river.

July is almost behind us as we move into late summer already. Fishing has been a little hit and miss but as a whole it has been pretty good. With all the rain, the river has been staying a little higher than normal and with that a little dirty at times. We have been able to find clean enough water on most days to keep catching but constantly jumping around to stay ahead of it.

We had a couple pretty big fly hatches during this stretch as well but staying in the river helped. Other than them messing up the shorelines with mounds of carcasses it doesn't seem to affect the bite as much as it does in the lake.

We have been using bait far more than crankbaits to get fish to cooperate. Pulling both up and downstream with leeches or nightcrawlers, depending on the area, has been the ticket.

It seems we should be set up for a good late summer/early fall bite with all the water in the system. Generally we have better luck going into Fall if we can stay away from long stretches of low water.

A few pics below of what we ran into over the past weeks.
