Falling water temps, level and flow. Water clarity getting better slowly... are the conditions currently on the river at Red Wing.
The past month has been interesting with a lot of higher than normal water levels and a fairly dirty main river. Most of this stretch was spent hunting the cleanest water as much as hunting fish. Sometimes we know the fish are there but the water is dirty enough they won't bite.
With that said we usually were able to put together pretty decent catches along with a big fish every now and then as well. We probably spent more time dragging jigs/bait down stream but the big fish in the pics were mostly caught pulling bait slowly upstream.
We are just turning the corner into Fall and all indicators point to a good stretch ahead. Higher than normal flows generally pull fish into the upper end of pool 4 no matter what time of year and coupled with the fact it is already September we believe there is a good early Fall bite ahead.
