08/17/10--- Pool 4(Red Wing) Water Temp:82 Level:6.71 Flow:31,200cfs
Above normal rainfall has led to some higher water than is typical for mid August. Flows are also higher than normal with
water temps about average.
I have had a big gap in reports due to a family trip. We spent the last part of July and Early August on a swing through the
western part of the US. We even managed a little fishing along the way but will save that report for another day.
I got back on the water early last week and found and few spots that had willing walleyes. Bridger and I managed to put a
few in the boat, mostly dragging jigs but a couple on cranks.
Starting on Friday I had Morry and Steve Van Speybroeck and Skip Schade all east siders in the Quad Cities area. We had things
going our way right away on Friday morning. We caught fish for the first couple hours until the water we were fishing turned to
chocolate milk. Heavy rains upstream the night before sent a mess our direction and screwed up plan A quickly. Searching more
than catching was the norm for the rest of the day with only a couple more eyes finding our boat.
We spent Saturday and Sunday morning searching for cleaner water but clarity deteriorated by the hour and made the eye chase
a futile endeavor. Changing gears and chasing crappies for a few hours on Saturday did produce a few fish but not the jumbos we
were after. Most fish were in the 9-11" range and did give us a little action. Thanks to Morry, Steve and Skip for the visit.
Being from farther south on the Mississippi, they understood what high dirty water can do to things
Things are sure to swing back in the anglers favor as the water stabilizes and clears.
